ABOUT THE SYMPOSIUM

The Shahnameh’s, which have spread to the world with or without pictures, are accepted today as one of the greatest works of the world classics. Written by Firdevsi to be presented to Mahmud of Ghazna, this work consists of blending real information with the epic history of Iran from the creation of the first human (Keyumers) to the period of Arab rule in Iran.
Attracting much attention of the West, speculations about this work were examined by different disciplines and became the subject of many researchers. Studies carried out in this context have brought along new evaluations.
A symposium will be held between 18-19 October 2023 in cooperation with Fatih Sultan Mehmet Vakif University, Istanbul University and Isfahan University titled “Shâhnâma in the International Culture and Art”, critically examining the Shahnameh and evaluating it from different perspectives including literary, historical, social, artistic and others.

 

SYMPOSIUM TOPICS
• Shahnameh’s aesthetics in terms of rhetoric, poetics, and semantics

• Manuscripts, translations, and editions

• Miniatures of Shahnameh manuscripts

• Mythology: Besides analyzing the deep structure of myths, reading the histories and epics mentioned in the Shahnameh with detailed analysis and providing new frameworks
• Literary Theory: Shahnameh’s analysis based on literary theories from structuralism to post-colonialism

• Philological studies on the language and structure of the Shahnameh
